News media criticised

(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, July 12.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato (Dr D. R. Llewellyn) blames the news media for today’s “student image.” Speaking to a Frankton Rotary meeting Dr Llewellyn said the media tended to focus attention on the more sensational aspects of campus life. He cited an incident at Waikato University, when more than 100 students marched on a professorial board meeting, as an example of the attitude of the news media.

“Students have only to tell the news media there will be some fun on campus, and the media will be there in strength,” he said.
