Approval for fifth Boeing
(N.Z. Press Association) WANGANUI, July 12. N.A.C. has received Government approval to purchase its fifth Boeing, the airline’s general manager (Mr D. A. Patterson) said today. The aircraft was being bought from Pacific SouthWest Airlines, of the United States. It would arrive in the middle of next year, and go into service in December, 1973. N.A.C.’s schedules planning manager, Mr B. New, said that N.A.C. had been aware for some time that
growth on trunk routes had created deficiencies in certain sectors. These included the early ChristchurchWellington capacity and the gap between 5.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. on the Wel-ington-Christchurch sector. The fifth Boeing would 'emedy these. “N.A.C, is planning the mrchase of further Boeings as Viscounts are phased out, and this policy will eventually result in all services between the main centres being operated by pure jet aircraft,” Mr New said.
