Men’s squash seeds successful

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. The only players left in the New Zealand men’s squash rackets championship are the eight seeded players.

The top-seeded T. Johnston (Rotorua) yesterday conceded one game in his encounter with N. Rush (Canterbury University), but was not troubled in taking the other three. The fifth-seeded S. O’Dwyer (Collegians, Welling ton), and the sixth-seeded D. Preston (Christchurch) were also extended to four games, but the battle in this championship was between the seventh-seeded T. Colyer (Henderson) and G. Stewart (Wanganui). Colyer fought back well after losing the first two games, 5-9, 9-10, and took the next two comfortably, 9- 9-4 The last game, and the set, could have gone either way, but Colyer held on to win it 10In a surprise result, the title-holder and second seed in the women’s championship Mrs P. Buckingham (Hamilton) was eliminated by the unseeded Miss R. Davis (Manurewa). Mrs Buckingham went down. 9-10, 2-9, 10-8. 9-2. 7-9. Results were:— MEN First round —S. Hughes (North Shore) beat A.
