Japan unlikely to get beef

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 11. Japan’s decision to raise its beef import quota would not attract any more New Zealand beef there, said the chairman of the Meat Board (Mr C. Hilgendorf) this afternoon. Japan had not been paying prices that would attract New Zealand beef. The United States had also taken off its quotas and so New Zealand had the opportunity to sell there and to the rest of the world at very good prices, said Mr Hiigendorf.
