Explanation on swimmer Although he was affiliated to the Canterbury Centre, the Olympic representative, M F. Treffers, swam for Southland In an inter-centre carnival at Invercargill on July 1. The Canterbury management committee was told last evening that it had been agreed originally that Troffers, formerly from Southland but attending univen ity in Christchurch, would not represent either centre However, the manager of the Canterbury team (Mr D P Johnson) said that because It had paid his air fare to Invercargill for the meeting and was also providing funds for him to travel to Munich for the Olympic Games. Southland considered It was entitled to have him as its representative. The centre agreed to take no further action on the matter. Remit selected—A remit from the Jellle Park club asking that affiliation fees for learn-to-wwlm members of clubs be abolished was not accepted by the meeting. Selectors.—The centre will nominate Mr J. H. Johnson, of Christchurch, for the position of national selector, with two current members of the panel, Messrs R Shakespeare and R M. Webb
