NEW MAGISTRATE

WELLINGTON, July 3. Mr J. E. Millar, of Christchurch, has been appointed a stipendiary magistrate and will be stationed in Hamilton, the Minister of Justice (Sir Roy Jack) announced today. Mr Millar, aged 49. is a senior partner in the firm of Millar, Kerr and Company. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1950 and has since practised in Christchurch. In 1966 he was appointed a notary public, and he is a member of the panel of judges advocate for service courts martial. He served for 10 years on the council of the Canterbury District Law Society and was president in 1969. Mr Millar represented New Zealand Universities and Canterbury province at athletics. During the war he served for three years with the Royal New Zealand Navy and he holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander (Ret’d) in the R.N.Z.N.V.R.
