MERELY PLAYERS AGAIN
Merely Players, the Christchurch troupe which has produced three successful revues in Christchurch in the last three years, will be back in the Ngaio Marsh Theatre on Saturday night with a new show.
Entitled “Up to a Point,” the production will run until July 15. An innovation for the group will be a Sunday performance on July 9. As usual, all the sketches have been written by members of the cast. The subjects dealt with include the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, Rugby watchers, pop songs, service in shops, Women’s Lib, avant garde theatre, New Zealand wine, tele-
vision programmes, and the Springbok tour.
The cast is Anthea Harper, Steve Erber, Alan Grant, William Hayward, Christopher McVeigh, Hugh Canard, David Palmer and Jeremy Burke. Lighting and stage direction is by David Palmer, and the producer is Alan Grant. The format of the show is much the same as in previous years, although more use will be made of music this time. The producer adds that an innovation is the inclusion of a troupe of tumblers and high-wire artists, one of whom will jump from the trapeze without a safety net As a precaution this act will appear last on the programme if it appears at all.
