Manaroa second
(N.Z. Press Association) BRISBANE. Manaroa was narrowly beaten in his heat of the Albion Park Ten Thousand on Saturday night by Red Vicar, which was immediately installed the 2/1 favourite for the final on Saturday.
Manaroa set a fast pace in his heat and on the home turn looked likely to hold on, but Red Vicar, given the run of the race by L. Moulds, scorched over the last furlong to run the New Zealander down by two yards, with Relchman third.
Red Vicar broke the track record for IOJf., clocking 2min 42.2 sec.
In the other heat Deep Court coasted to the easiest of wins. He took the lead after six furlongs and was never tested. Deep Court won by 10 yards from Kiwi Lad. with Parachief third.
The Queensland Derby was won by Bold Blami. the victor in the New South Wales Derby In March.
Bold Blami swamped the field to win by 15 yards from Pacefast with the New Zealand-bred Repentant Leisure third.
