$504,000 estimated for water link
A provisional estimate of $504,000 as the cost of interconnecting the main county high-pressure water-supply with that at Halswell was given to the Paparua County Council last evening by the County Engineer (Mr A. Dyhrberg).
No decision was reached, the council holding the question over for more investigation with a view to putting forward firm proposals. Mr Dyhrberg said that his investigation was based on a peak demand of 20,000 gallons a minute, compared with an 8500-gallon peak at present. He proposed a 1.25 m gallon reservoir on the hill above Cashmere Road near the Sutherlands Road junction.
, This would cost about - $BO,OOO. A 36in main from - the reservoir to Halswell > Road would cost $236,000, and a 24in main from there s to Springs Road would cost i $187,500. This would supply - 5000 gallons a minute and 1 meet requirements until peak t demand was about 14.000 gallons. 1 A second 24in main would j be needed at this point to ! serve the industrial district . and other consumers, and ’ ending at the junction of Halswell Junction Road and the Main South Road. The first and most urgent need would be to connect the Main South Road main to the 24in main at Awatea Road. This . would cost about $48,000.
