Pollution

Sir, —An interesting point has been raised in your column lately: the conversion of human sewage into useful forms of fertiliser. As an ardent believer in ecology, I am in full support of this proposal because, despite jeing ecological, it would be both economic and practical. Economic because, how many other industries can one

think of where raw materials are supplied completely free? Practicable because, what better way of ridding ourselves of the troublesome burden of sewage disposal? I can accept no reply from the Government or local authorities which states that they “have no immediate plans” as this proposal is long overdue and action should be taken now. I am sure many Christchurch citizens support me in my argument, especially those in Aranui.—Yours, etc., CLAUDE L. DAVIES. June 9, 1972.
