Three claims for a total of 52000 for alleged libel have been filed against South Otago Newspapers, Ltd, publishers of the “Clutha Leader.” The plaintiffs are Trevor Lawrence Richards, chairman of Halt All Racial Tours, Richard Northey, and Thomas Oliver Newnham, president and secretary respectively of the Citizens' Association for Racial Equality. Mr Richards is claiming SIOOO, and Mr Northey and Mr Newnham $5OO each. The actions arise from the printing in the "Clutha Leader” of a letter to the editor in November last year.
