Con. Silver to mine perlite
(N.Z. Preu Auodatlon) AUCKLAND, June 12. Consolidated Silver Mining Company of New Zealand, Ltd, plans to set up a mining operation to work a large perlite deposit on Great Barrier Island.
A report from the company’s geological consultants says that the proved content of the deposit was one million tons of material worth about $l5 a ton when extracted. Possible reserves were as high as 100 million tons.
The directors have told the Stock Exchange they are negotiating marketing agreements and finance. They envisaged setting up an operation to extract about 50,000 tons of ore a year at first
Per Ute is an insulating material in increasing demand throughout the world. The company also reported that its geologists have apparently discovered large deposits of rutile and other minerals.
