Appointment of ambassador

Mr Doan Ba Cang has been appointed Ambassador of Vietnam to New Zealand. He succeeds Dr Nghiem My, who has been Charge d'Affaires since the Embassy was established in Wellington in 1969.
Mr Cang will be the first Ambassador of Vietnam to live in New Zealand. Formerly the ambassador in Canberra had been dually accredited. New Zealand has been represented in Saigon by a resident ambassador since 1968. Mr Cang at present is Charge d'Affaires in Tokyo, and in 1968-69 was the vice consul-general at the Paris peace conference.
