Grenade at dance
(N.Z. Press Association)
INVERCARGILL, May 1. The organisers of the weekly R.S.A. dance in Invercargill were shaken on Saturday night when a hand grenade was deposited with the doorman for safe keeping. The grenade was smuggled into the hall by a patron about 10.15 p.m. and was left with the doorman about half an hour later. It was to be collected at midnight, when the dance finished. However, the doorman did not fancy the gift, and called the police. The police called in the Army, who took possession of the grenade. It was found to be harmless.
