The South African Consul-General (Mr P. H. Philip), who said last night he regarded the Springbok .Rugby tour of New Zealand as “still on,” according to the Press Association. “We have been invited and have accepted—as long as we are wanted, we will come,” Mr Philip said. Mr Philip returned to Wellington tonight after consultations in South Africa. He said that, in the present circumstances, the only thing he could see that would stop the tour would be the withdrawal of the invitation.
Asked if he could foresee any circumstances under which South Africa would cancel the tour without the invitation being withdrawn, Mr Philip said he could only comment on the position at present.
