MOUNTAIN SAFETY
The University of Canterbury will help to make a film on river crossing for the National Mountain Safety Council, the retiring chairman of the Canterbury regional committee of the council (Mr J. Ede) announced at the annual meeting last evening. “It will be made at approximately half the cost of a film made with the National Film Unit in Wellington," he said. Abuot 140 people took part in the committee's “Tramperama” at Lake Taylor at the week-end and were successfully introduced to the pleasures and prbolems to be encountered in mountain areas, the organiser (Mr D. Morse) said. Their ages ranged from nine to more than 70. The council’s film “What a Stupid Way to Die”—on exposure—and a film on water safety were shown at the meeting. Officers elected were:—> Chairman, Mr N. F. Harris; vice-chairman, Mr A. G. Elmsly; treasurer, Mr J. Roberts; secretary, Miss S. M. Campbell; publicity officer, Mr P. W. McOscar; committee, Dr D. R. Given, Messrs K. T. Brownlee, N. Duckworth and J. R. Wilson.
