All at sea
Moored in the estuary of the River Crouch off the south-east coast of England is what is said to be the loneliest and smallest car research station in Britain: an Bft square raft owned by the Ford company. The company uses the raft to expose car parts to highly corrosive conditions for up to two years. The tests are complementary to laboratory tests, and other outdoor exposure sites on the roofs of buildings.
