STUDENT HEALTH

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) MELBOURNE, April 6. A survey conducted on students at Melbourne’s Monash University has revealed that many become mentally ill during their first two terms. The university’s department of social and preventive medicine is analysing the results of a two-year study of 2000 fresher students in 1969. The survey showed that 29 per cent had some emotional or mental illness, and were worried over sexual relationships, family discord, and fear of examinations. Professor B. Hetzel of the department said: “We know considerably more about the clinical tip of the iceberg than about the massive illness, unhappiness, and thwarted achievement that floats beneath the help-seek-ing threshold."
