Old Stone House plan
The old Stone House, at Cashmere, may be turned into a community centre for part of its use if there is enough support for the idea from local residents. More than 2000 questionnaires to gauge support for the restoration of the firedamaged building to this end —were distributed yesterday for the Old Stone House Trust by local scouts and Hoon Hay School pupils. The trust’s chairman (Mr N. F. Roberts) said yesterday that the Heathcote County Council and the Christchurch City Council might back the project. “The questionnaires will be collected on Saturday by members of local service clubs. I hope everyone will fill in their names and addresses so that we have an accurate record of support,” Mr Roberts said. Tentative plans at present for the house included its use during the week as a community centre, and as a training centre for youth groups and conference centre at the week-ends, Mr Roberts said.
