(N.Z.P.A-Reuter— Copyright) SYDNEY, March 30. The net profit of David Jones, Ltd, for the seven months to February 29, rose $4OOO to $3,974,000. Turnover rose 7.0 per cent, aboveaverage increases being recorded in North Queensland and Canberra. An unchanged interim dividend of 7.5 per cent is payable on May 3. Books close on April 20. Cost increases exerted continual pressure on profits, and the transport strike in Sydney before Christmas had an adverse effect on city trading, the directors said. The company plans to open three large new stores in September and October. The building and fitting-out programmes of these are on schedule.
