CONTAINERS CHEAPER

(N.Z. Preu AttodaUon) WELLINGTON, Mar. 31. Because the Rangatira has more headroom above the cargo decks than the Maori has, the Union Steam Ship Company has been able to increase the maximum load in its seafreighter containers by 27 per cent without increasing its charges. Previously, when loaded to a height of 6ft, a container load cost $1.57 a sq. ft, said Mr D. A. Graham, Wellington manager of the company. This amounted to 630 cu. ft for $180.55. Now, for the same price, 867 cu. ft could be carried. There are similar effective freight reductions for trailers and cargo vehicles.
