E.E.C. OFFER OF TALKS
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) . TOKYO, March 31. The European Economic Community was ready to reopen negotiations for a trade pact with Japan, Mr Albert Borchette, a member of the E.E.C. Commission said in [Tokyo yesterday. Mr Borchette, who is also I in charge of the Community’s public relations, said that in any agreement the E.E.C. i would need some form of safeguard clause enabling Japanese imports to be restricted in an emergency. Mr Borchette is in Japan for 10 days to prepare for the setting up of an E.E.C. information office in Tokyo, to open next September. Cam put arrests Riot-equipped policemen, swinging night-sticks in confrontations with students, arrested 33 persons today on the Boston University campus after they had been asked by the president of the university to break up a demonstration protesting against the presence of military recruiters. Two United States Marine Corps officers were interviewing prospective recruits in the university’s employment office.— Boston, i March, 28.
