Fighting inflation
Sir, — Congratulations to the Prime Minister! The wage or salary earner does not bear much of the risk involved in business, and has had a liberal share of the national income in the last two years relative to other sections of the community. Mr Kirk has criticised the Government’s measures, but he has offered nothing better or constructive. Mr Kirk is wrong when he thinks that New Zealanders, who are so well off compared with the people of other parts of the world, are not prepared to make a sacrifice in the interests of the nation. All reasonable people will feel that Mr Marshall’s plan should be given a fair trial; after all, no other country has made such a bold attempt to handle the problems of inflation. For our own good we must tackle the problem, if only because we are so reliant upon our export values for survival.— Yours, etc., RISK-TAKER. March 29, 1972.
