Arrest of youths

Three 16-year-old youths who were arrested in Ashburton early yesterday morning appeared at a special sitting of the Children’s Court later in the morning charged with unlawfully taking a-car from Christchurch on Tuesday evening. They were remanded to appear in the Christchurch Children’s Court on April 5. Bail was allowed. A fourth person was located later yesterday after a second vehicle was found just south of the Ashburton River bridge. He was taken to the Christchurch Central Police Station for questioning. Senior-Sergeant A. E. Leadley of the Ashburton, police said that the arrests followed observation of the movement of cars in an Ashburton car sales yard about 2 azn. yesterday. s
