SEMI-FINAL TRIALS

Invercargill trackwork "The Press” Special Service , INVERCARGILL. Silver SaHy, Warlight, Silver Savant Bellekco. and Atabell were Riverton candidates to show to advantage in the semi-final trials at Invercargill vesterday morning. Silver Savant, which is to start in the Great Western Steeplechase in preference to the Waiau Steeplechase, gave a dashing display over five fences of the steeplechase course, being partnered by his stable-mate, Abebe, which also gave a first class showing. They worked over a solid two rounds, and finished up from the half mile in 54 2-ssec. Atabell had the edge on Minlhawa and Miss Adventure at the end of five furolngs in Imin 4 2-ssec, the first two in 25 2-ssec, and the last half in 54 4-ssec. Bellaware set a solid pace from the outset, with Bellekco, which had the worst of the weights, being three to four lengths back most of the way. He moved up to Bellaware at the home turn, and was within a length of her at the finish, both being under a nice hold. Bellaware ran the last mile of their mile and a quarter in Imin 47 2-ssec, the last half in 53 2-ssec, and the final three in 40 1The Pixie, one of the favourites for the Aparima Handicap on Saturday, was let off with an easy sprint task, being under a hold over three furlongs in 41sec.
