A. Tweedie suspended
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREL „ After the running of the Kamo High-weight Hsndicsp_ at Whangarrt yesterday. A. X Tweedie, the rider of Trackman, was charged with causing, interference to Stecalado (R. T. Heaslip) on the turn out of the back straight The judicial committee heard evidence from Mr V. H. Simpson, assistant stipendiary steward and the rider* named. The film of the Incident was viewed. The judicial committee found Tweedie guilty of the charge and he was suspended from riding up to and Including April 3, 1972. Arising out of the charge against Tweedie, the stipendiary steward charged HeasUp with giving misleading evidence. After reviewing a transcript of the evidence given by HeasUp and hearing further statements from ttio stipendiary steward and HeasUp, the judicial committee decided that whUe HeasUp’s evidence was not completely satisfactory it did not justify the imposition of a penalty as provided by the rule. However, the committee warned Heaslip that in future he would be well advised to pay more attention to accuracy and detail when giving evidence. An inquiry was held into interference by the second placed horse, Nemeses (S. Samuels), to the winner, Ngatea’s Dream (M. A. Long), approximately a furlong from the finish of the first division of the Towal Maiden Handicap. The judicial committee heard evidence from Mr B. J. Donnelly, assistant stipendiary steward and viewed the film of the incident. Samuels admitted the offence and a statement was made on his behalf by his employer, C. B. Naden. The judicial committee decided that Samuels be fined 320- In fixing the penalty, the judicial committee took into account Samuels’s good record, his frankness over the incident and his limited experience.
