BURNSIDE MARKET

(N.Z, Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 29. Prices for heavy cattle remained firm in the prime beef cattle section at Burnside market this week, but light and unfinished sorts were cheaper by $3 to $4 per head. The yarding of 314 head comprised mainly light weights. A total of 62 runners and vealers were penned and while quality was genierally up. to the usual standard, prices declined by $3 per head for all weights. Values remained about late rates for store cattle, of which there were 71 of mixed quality and breed. The pig entry at 57 was the smallest for some time and prices were slightly in sellers’ favour, mainly as a result of the limited supply. Prices for prime lambs eased by 40c per head, although the quality of the 652 offered was good. In the prime sheep pens, where 2728 head of average quality were yarded, hoggets sold at about last week’s levels but ewes were slightly easier. Values were:— Prime beef cattle.—Top oxen, 8191; heavy, $l7O to 8185; medium, $l4B to $160; light, $125 to $138; small, $llB to $l2O. Top heifer, $137; heavy, $l3O to $136; medium, $125 to $128; light, $lOl to $ll5. Top. cow, $148; heavy, $139 to $143; medium, $125 to $136; light, $lO7 to $llB.
