U.S. film title causes anger

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) PALO ALTO (California), March 29. An organisation calling itself Zero Population Growth has been angered because a new Paramount Pictures sci-ence-fiction film will be called “Z.P.G.” “The film depicts a society which fails to achieve zero population growth, and institutes birth control by government control,” Mr Harold Seielstad, the organisation’s executive director, said yesterday. “This is directly opposed to our advocacy of voluntary control of births by couples to two children.

“The use of the group's initials for the title ‘Z.P.G.’ is repugnant to us.” The Z.P.G. filed a suit on March 2, seeking an injunction against the film title, but the request was denied by a Superior Court judge in San Francisco. There is unlikely to be an appeal, but Mr Seielstad has asked the organisation’s 300,000 members to picket the film wherever it is shown.
