Weaker tone over all in Australia
Mining shares eased further on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Oil shares were lower. Most industrials were little changed, but B,H.P.’s price fell sharply. B.H.P. shed 20c at 1260 c. Thiess Holdings was trimmed of 8c to 312 c. Among the banks, the
C.B.A. showed out with a 10c 1 loss at 320 c but 5c improve- I ments were shown by the Bank of Adelaide at 265 c and . the National at 385 c.
Cambridge Credit, which featured in a sudden, sharp price rise earlier this week, shed a further 6c at 91c. C.R.A. recovered 30c of yesterday’s sharp loss to 720 c. Bougainville finished 3c lower at 393 c trading down

to 385 c, and Hamersley slipped 6c at 272 c. Peko eased 10c at 980 c. Explorer Pancontinental suffered a 10c loss at 100 c. Nickels came under selling pressure, with Metals Exploration losing 15c at 290 c, and W.M.C. falling 8c at 315 c. Poseidon finished 20c lower on buying bid of 1300 c, but the last sale for the day was at 1280 c. Selling pressure on oils continued to mount, with Woodside-Burmah losing a further 8c to 175 c and Magellan dipping 5c at 125 c. Ampol Exploration lost 3c to 127 c.
