Handicapped aid

An aid to help intellectually handicapped persons .use a . P ublic telephone which could also be used for training purposes was the subject of a design brief presented to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Society of Industrial Designers. One of the best solutions to the brief, which was presented by the director of the Porirua Centre of Psychological Services (Mr D. Brown), was a wallet which could be carried by an intellectually handicapped person and when needed fitted around the telephone dial.

Using a photograph and colour code in place of a name and number sequence, the intellectually handicapped person is able to reach the person he requires.
