Radiant Globe to win again?

First-night form points to Radiant Globe and Robalan winning the final set of qualifying heats tomorrow for the $12,000 Easter Cup, which will be run on April 1 at Addington Raceway.

Both horses will meet their rivals on less favourable terms under invitation conditions than they did in last.week's free-for-all heats.

However, their efforts were so impressive that, in spite of their handicaps, they should be two of the strongest prospects in their

heats. Radiant Globe beat Sun shine Boy hands down by three lengths after 13 furlongs in 3min 23 4-ssec last week. He will have to give away starts of 24 yards to his eight rivals this time, but in his present form that is unlikely to be enough to stop him winning again.

In the past Radiant Globe has improved with racing and it is expected that he will benefit as a result of last Saturday’s run. Arapaho will vie for favouritism with Radiant Globe. He looked likely to benefit from last Saturday’s race when he finished second to Rauka Lad after being seen in the unusual role of pacemaker. With his advantage in the handicaps, he should run Radiant Globe fairly close.

Violetta and Forest King appeal most of the others. Robalan looked desperately unlucky when he

finished third, less than a length from Rauka Lad, last Saturday. Had he worked clear just a few yards earlier in the run home, there is little doubt that he would have turned defeat into victory.

The free-legged son of Lumber Dream looks in wonderful order at present and even from 12 yards he is ex-

pected to produce a finishing burst which will be more than his rivals can contend with.

Sunshine Boy lost little caste when beaten by Radiant Globe on the first night. His driver, D. M. Alexander, came in for some criticism when he waited until the three furlongs before asking Sunshine Boy to improve, and then he made little headway before the straight.

Sunshine Boy is a noted front-runner, and it will not surprise if these tactics are tried with him tomorrow, in which case he will be hard to catch.

Apart from Robalan and Sunshine Boy, bold runs are

expected from Rauka Lad, Royal Ascot, Noble Lord, and Berkleigh. The New Zealand Trotting Stakes, for which Black Miller, Butch Cassidy and About Time are favoured runners, The Reta Peter Handicap, for the top trotters, and the meeting between Dwayne, Vanadium, Van Glory and other promising pacers in the Plains Handicap, will be other highlights of an interesting night. The jackpot, starting with a pool of $57,173.50, will be another feature. This will be run on races two to seven inclusive, with the pool expected to increase to between $90,000 and $lOO,OOO.
