GAMES PLAN
Huge team from Aust.. (N.Z. Preu Aisn—Copyright) SYDNEY. Australia planned to send a record 350 competitors to the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. Mr W. Young, a delegate to the Australian Commonwealth Games Association said yesterday. The figure will be even more than represented Australia when the Games were in Perth 10 years ago. There would be full representation in every section of every sport, Mr Young said. “We feel we should do this as New Zealand is our sister State and because it is so close," he added. Mr Young said Commonwealth Games Association officials in Australia were confident that they could raise enough money to send such a huge team to Christchurch. Special Commonwealth
Games trials would have to be held in each summer sport early in the 1973-74 season before the team for Christchurch could be selected. Mr Young said that in his particular sport—cycling, in which he has held office for many years—trial dates for November, 1973, had already been set.
“We have already gone over a great deal of ground in our preparations for Christchurch," Mr Young said. He added that he was hoping that he and other Australian Commonwealth Games officials would be able to visit Christchurch well in advance of the Games to take a look at the facilities.
