Bid to save whales
(N.Z. Prss* Assn.— Copyright) LONDON, Mar. 21. The British coast guard service is to join in a new plan which, it is hoped, will save stranded whales, dolphins and porpoises, the Press Association reports. If left on the shore the creatures die, but prompt attention by experts can save many. When reports of strandings are received, the coast guards will immediately communicate with the whale survival unit at Frinton-on-Sea, Essex, where experts will be ready for action.
The unit is controlled by Mr Reginald Bloom, formerly curator at Chester Zoo and at the Flamingo Zoo in Yorkshire. He has a team of experts ready, and can draw on volunteers from sub-aqua clubs.
Divorce decree, -r Gloria Fhonda Stammers, of Melbourne (Mr I. C. J. Polson), was granted a decree nisi by Mr Justice White in the Supreme Court yesterday on an undefended divorce getition against Keith Alan tammers, a marketing manager, of Timaru (Mr G. S. Brockett), oh the ground of desertion.
