Board post given up
Appreciation of the work done by Dr Lindsay Bums as senior ophthalmologist to the North Canterbury Hospital Board was expressed by the chairman of the board (Dr L. C. L, Averill) at its monthly meeting yesterday, jv Dr Averill : that Dr Burns had, relinquished his post with the board and, was confining himself to his private practice. -While With the boardr he had built up the ophthalmic staff from literally nothing to a flourishing concern. He had «Iso bunt up a team of eye surgeons so mat there were at least six surgeons who couMperform eye operations. Dr Burns said he had decided to give up Ms position on Vre board after 25 years as he felt that younger men should be given a reasonable opportunity to get on the staff of a hospital such as Christchurch Hospital without having to wait too long. Dr J. H. Mclntyre, medical superintendent at Burwood Hospital, had advised his intention to retire from August 31, the board was told. Dr Averill said that members would have an opportunity of expressing their appreciation of Dr Mclntyre’s work in due course. Rugby.—The annual meeting of the Mauawatu Rugby Football Union has recommended to the incoming management committee that Its delegates to the annual meeting -of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union be instructed to vote for live telecasts of matches wherever possible.
