CAWLEY SIGNED
Newcomer
to Brighton
New Brighton, the coming season’s newcomer to the Rothmans National Soccer League, yesterday made its only major signing so far from a Christchurch club when it was joined by the Technical wing, C. Cawley. Cawley, aged 22, a former schoolboy sprint champion, had been with Technical for two years, sharing in the club’s Southern League success in 1970. At the end of last season he played in Christchurch United’s matches against the touring Australian clubs, Azzurri and Western Suburbs.
Brighton will have its most testing pre-season practice match on Sunday when it meets Caversham in Dunedin. On the Saturday afternoon, Christchurch United will play Rangers at Rangers Park.
The Riccarton club, which will be playing in the Southern League, second division, will again be sponsored by Steve Christenson, Ltd, which this season is supplying first-team members and coach with track suits.
