An under-18 men’s basketball team from Newcastle would play the Canterbury colts in Christchurch on May 15, said the provincial selector-coach (Mr R. McCormack) yesterday. ; The team would also meet New Zealand juniors in two matdies during its tour. Although local competitions were not expected to begin until after Easter, Mr McCormack said he hoped to have his-squad chosen within a month. “We haven’t got much time to prepare for the Australians/’ he said. ! The age limit for colts in New Zealand had been altered from under 20 last year to under 18 on December 31 this year. This had hotmade things any easier, said Mr McCormack. ■ s A coaching seminar will be held in Wellington between April 14 and 16, and Mr McCormack hopes to attend tois, provided he can obtain financial assistance. The Canterbury senior coach (Mr G. D. Dempsey), who was recently appointed to the New Zealand selection panel, will also attend.
League.—The former British representative, M. Reilly, last evening was named captain of the leading Sydney Rugby league club, Manly-Warringah. Reilly, aged 24, a lock, succeeds F. Jones, the Australian hooker.
