Scheme not successful
"The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON.
The president of the New Zealand Olympic and British Commonwealth Games Association (Mr H. I. Austad), said on Tuesday evening that the results of a fund-raising scheme to send competitors to Munich were unsatisfac-
tory. The scheme—the sale of $1 car sticker—was planned to raise $BO,OOO, but the accounts of the association presented at last evening’s annual meeting revealed that at January 1 the scheme had raised only $604.50. Mr Austad urged delegates to take back "the message of urgency if thev want this thing to succeed." He predicted that the overall cost of this year’s New Zealand Olympic team would be $120,000.
The meeting decided to recommend to the executive committee that it look into ways of raising funds to meet its regular commitments. Earlier, a move by Mr G. W. Jackman (athletics) to raise association affiliation fees from $5O to $l5O was ruled out of order. Canoeists out
"Thev will not be in our team,” said Mr Austad, in reply to a report that the New Zealand Canoeing Association had nominated three competitors for Munich. Mr Austad said that the canoeing association was not an affiliated body.
