Fairfax profit down slightly

SYDNEY, March 22.
The group net profit of John Fairfax, Ltd, for the six months to December 26 was 1.8 per cent lower than for the previous corresponding period. An unchanged interim dividend of 10 per cent is payable on April 281 to shareholders registered by: April 4. Total revenue, excluding capital profits, rose in the period by 4.3 per cent. Income from sources other than publishing was substantially higher than in the previous corresponding period, the directors say. Associated Newspapers, Ltd, whose ordinary capital is wholly owned by John Fairfax, has reported a 5.4 per cent increase in profit for the six months to December 26, total revenue up by 2 per cent.
