FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
Situation.—A weakening ridge of high pressure extends from the south Tasman Sea over the South Island to an anticyclone centred between the Chatham Islands and the South Island; a deepening depression near Lord Howe Island is moving slowly south-east and a trough extending from it over the North Island is moving south. Forecast:
Canterbury. — Fresh north - easterlies about the coast, but light winds inland; low cloud or fog at first this morning in coastal areas, otherwise fine, but high cloud increasing during the day from the north; mild day temperatures.
Buller and Westland.—Moderate winds from the easterly quarter; rather cloudy about Buller, but mainly fine elsewhere; mild day temperatures.
Marlborough and Nelson.—North-easterly winds fresh in exposed northern areas but moderate elsewhere; cloudy, and some showers mainly in places exposed to the north and east; moderate temperatures.
Outlook: mainly cloudy.
