Cars in park
Sir,—Towards the end of last year, the new City Council received a letter from the Christchurch Civic Trust asking that something be done to curb the misuse of the parking area inside the Armagh Street bridge in Hagley Park. Sufficient time has now elapsed for some action to have been contemplated, and with the start of the new university year, coupled with our Mayor’s avowed intention to preserve the beauty of Hagley Park, one would hope that something will be done in this direction. Otherwise we can look forward to another year of a student car park in Hagley Park.—Yours, etc, R.A.F.D. March 1, 1972.
[The Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering) replies: “It is apparent that with the re-opening of the university this year, a good number of cars are being parked just inside the Armagh Street gates by persons who are probably not normal park users. A survey is being undertaken so that this matter can be brought before the parks and recreation committee to see what further action it wishes to take.”]
