Akaroa boat found
An Akaroa fishing boat, the Keruru, which was reported overdue from a fishing trip on Tuesday night, was towed back to Akaroa early yesterday morning with its engine out of action. The 32ft vessel, with John Wright ,aged 23, and Paul Wright, aged 21, on board, had last been sighted five miles off Pompey’s Pillar about 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday. It had been fishing in groper grounds.
When it failed to return, the Anita, with Mr H. Nee and Mr D. McCormick aboard, left Akaroa to search for it They found the Keruru about 2.5 a.m. The Keruru had become disabled when groper guts caught in the cooling system of the engine and caused it to overheat. The engine would not start after it had been cleared.
