N.Z. ‘Seabee Queen’
A former Christchurch woman now living in Rhode Island, Mrs Sandra E. Haifley, has won the title “Seabee Queen.”
Mrs Haifley is the daughter of Mr and Mrs G. W. A. Taylor, of Christchurch. A hairdresser, she attended Hillmorton High School, and met her husband in 1965 when he was attached to the United States Navy Antarctic support force.
The couple were married in Christchurch. They have two children, Tania, aged four, and Tracy, six months.
Mrs Haifley has lived in the United States for five years. Her husband, Chief Builder V. W. Haifley, is assigned to Naval Mobile
Construction Battalion 71, and was recently with a detachment of the battalion in the Antarctic. The family lives in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Mrs Haifley will be crowned at the 1972 “Seabee Ball” at Davisville Seabee Centre tomorrow. She was chosen from 32 candidates.
Mrs Haifley was selected by a panel of seven judges. The attributes the panel sought included beauty, poise, social awareness, and speaking ability.
