Further decline by miners on unsettled markets

Mining shares were cut back further in relatively quiet trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Oils were little changed and industrials were mixed. Hamersley shed a further 10c to 290 c after opening firm. More than s77m has been writen off the market capitalisation of the company since the announcement of the latest cuts in shipments to Japanese mills. CRA, Hamersley’s parent, dropped 30c to 690 c. BH South was down 10c to 250 c and Bougainville lost 10c at 360 c.

Mary Kathleen was steady after die U3OB sale announcement. Kathleen Investments shed 20c to 250. Utah was 10c lower at 385 c after the report. B. was erratic. The shares gathered support during the day to show at one stage a 15c gain at 1200 c but when the market closed, the shares had retreated to 1185 c, unchanged oh the day. C. dropped 6c at 530 c and transport group T.N.T. fell 11c to 245 c after recent strong gains. Bank N.S.W. dominated banking stocks with a further 10c rise to 750 c.
