Inquiries by police
The C. 1.8. is making investigations in a number of New Zealand centres, including Christchurch, into alleged fraudulent practices dealing with money received from investors through newspaper advertisements.
Although no specific sum has been named, it is believed that about $60,000 is involved.
Detective Sergeant E. J. Stackhouse, of the Blenheim C. 1.8., said yesterday morning that inquiries were concerned with investments made as the result of an advertising campaign in New Zealand
newspapers nearly two years ago in which some high interest rates were offered short-term investors.
He said that the use of the funds included the lease of motor-cars. It was alleged that some of the investors’ funds had been misappropriated.
