(N.Z. Press Association)
INVERCARGILL, March 7.
A second youth, aged 14, who escaped from Porirua Hospital a week ago was apprehended in Queenstown on Sunday. He appeared in the Children’s Court, Invercargill, yesterday, charged with burglary and was remanded to Wellington on March 8. The remand was made in custody and the youth was not asked to plead. Further charges are pending. The youth was arrested in the foyer of a Queenstown picture theatre on Sunday, after breaking contact with his fellow-escaper, Stephen Felix Smoluch, aged 16, who was apprehended in Wellington on Sunday. The two had stayed at a private hotel in Queenstown last week, posing as American students. Between them they had six revolvers, but no ammunition of the correct calibre.
