Suttle is cup pick
“The Press’’ Special Service AUCKLAND. Forgiven a last-start failure, Suttle seems an excellent prospect to take the Rotorua Gold Cup tomorrow. But she would need to be right at peak to win, as would any of the others, the field is of such strong quality. Suttle, and the likes of Kirrama, Wiremu and Nausori, would not be out of place anywhere. If they get through this race to the satisfaction of their trainers, Kirrama and Suttle might well go for the. Sydney Cup and even in such an event they would have big followings.
Suttle came only tenth last time, in a mile and a half at Trentham on January 29 but more because of the soft footing than anything. Just a week previously she all but won the Wellington Cup with a really fine performance.
Coming into last autumn Suttle developed form which made her a top middledistance runner. This is evidently the time of the year that suits her.
Kirrama. after four sprints since he came back to racing after a spell, must surely be about ready to go a middle- distance with credit. There was a great merit in his last-start fourth in the Wellington George Adams Handicap. The soft track was so much against him, and his earlier sprints were full of promise.
