Co-ordinated transport

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, Feb. 10. The new Minister of Transport, Railways and Marine and Fisheries (Mr Gordon) said tonight he was convinced it was logical and feasible for one ministry to co-ordinate essential transport industries. Speaking at a Rotary Club dinner, Mr Gordon said that he was certain the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) wished to co-ordinate all transport services. Mr Gordon said there had been criticism when one minister held the portfolios of transport and railways and the premise on which that had been based would be reactivated by his appointment. However, Mr Gordon said, he believed transport industry requests for separate ministries did not involve personalities. He added the successful transport advisory council, established after the national development council, would be the jury in transport cases.

“I can assure marine interests any policy matter of importance will be referred to it and discussed and I will be guided by what the council has to say,” the Minister said.
