Wellington may protest
Press Association/ WELLINGTON. The Wellington Cricket Association may lodge an official complaint over the amended hours to the Can-terbury-Northern Districts Plunket Shield match in Christchurch. The ehairman of the W.C.A. management committee (Mr I. N. Taylor) confirmed this yesterday. The Canterbury association extended play to 6.30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and allowed it to begin at 10 a.m. yesterday. , Wellington officials argue that this quite clearly broke the playing conditions laid down by the N.Z.C.C. These
conditions allow varied hours once the season has begun only to meet “exceptional travelling difficulties of either team or umpires.” Mr Taylor said Wellington appreciated that Canterbury had probably been thinking of making something out of a game that had been disrupted by rain. “Perhaps there should be some provision for this,” he said, “but as it stands there isn’t.” Wellington’s chief concern was with the principle of the rules. There was a danger of a precedent being set which could have serious consequence in the future if the outcome of the Plunket Shield was affected.
