Two surf life-savers were injured and three were plucked from the sea by helicopter in a spectacular end to a surf boat race from Muriwai to Piha yesterday.

The two injur’d men were] in the crew of a Muriwai I boat, which gained second I place but was swamped when! it attempted to beach at the I end of the race in waves of! 10ft to 12ft. The crewmen were thrown out and M. Butt and J. Bertenshaw, the captain, were injured. Butt has a suspected broken ankle and Bertenshaw a severely gashed leg.
