Rowles and CA.R.E.

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 29. The singer John Rowles has told the secretary of the Citizens’ Association for Racial Equality (Mr T. Newnham), that if his South African contract calls for him to perform to segregated audiences, he would ask for it to be changed, Mr Newnham said today. Mr Newnham said C.A.R.E. has asked Rowles to cancel his eight-week tour of South

Africa at the end of next month. He said Rowles telephoned him yesterday and said he would be calling his manager in the United States this afternoon to check whether the contract called for him to sing to segregated audiences. If it did, he would ask for it to be changed so that he could sing to mixed audiences. John Rowles is in Rotorua at present.
